Bruins Look For Full Effort Against Devils

Tonight the Bruins look to finish off their four-game homestead with yet another victory, despite being without another defensemen that they have come to rely on. It was announced yesterday afternoon that David Warsofsky would miss 2-4 weeks with a groin strain he sustained in Thursday night’s game against the Edmonton Oilers.

The Bruins have had to battle through the past couple of weeks without some key defensive players in their line up and have managed to earn a 5-1 record. Tonight however, there is a possibility that one of the missing links could be re-inserted in the line up. Torey Krug has been skating with the team since last Thursday, after being sidelined with a broken pinky finger that needed 30 stitches, the result of a slash he sustained two weeks ago. He is slated to be a game-time decision tonight, while David Krejci will sit out for his third of the last four games.

Even without Krug, the Bruins should still be in good position to take on the Devils with everyone chipping in to make the most of the situation at hand. They’ll just have to turn to Matt Bartkowski to step up his game.

“They’ve always been a team that’s been strong on their sticks and strong on the puck, and they have a lot of dangerous guys as well,” McQuaid said. “They have a good lineup, so it’s going to be a good test for us.”

“It’s not about the veterans doing it more or better; it’s about everybody doing it well. So we’ve really taken that group as one and dealt with it that way, and I think it’s great for everybody. You’re not asking the veterans to carry the load even though they know that they’re relied on a little bit more, but we’re also not treating the young players as if they’re not good enough to be here.  They should be good enough to do the same thing as the veterans. So I think treating them equally is probably the best approach we can take with them.”

The Devils are currently on a three-game losing streak and are 6-6-2 on the season, looking to turn things around. However, the Bruins have always had some difficulty in beating the men in red and white. Last season the Devils took two of the three meetings between the two teams and the Bruins are expecting the same efforts this season, especially in desperation.
