The Boston Bruins took the ice for the second day of practices at Ristuccia Arena in Wilmington today.  Many of the Bruins found their compete level rising as they know they’ll have to fight harder than previous seasons to keep their jobs in the Black and Gold.  While Milan Lucic is practically guaranteed a slot this year, he has been taking it a little easy. He knows his left wrist isn’t at one hundred percent following the surgery he had on it during the off-season.

“It’s probably not a good thing if I come back early and try to play a finesse game. I don’t think it’s good for me, the team, the fans or anyone. You want to put yourself in a position where you’re back to play one hundred percent. If you have to miss a Black and Gold game – or a couple of games – to get back to that one hundred percent, then you have to do that..” Bruins forward Milan Lucic

Sorry Bruins fans, it looks like Milan Lucic will be out for tomorrow’s Black and Gold scrimmage taking place in Providence.  He won’t be the only player standing on the sidelines.  David Pastrnak is out for the scrimmage as well.  He was put up against the boards by Matt Bartkowski in the first practice session. His shoulder got “tweaked” and is listed as “very,very doubtful” by Bruins Head Coach Claude Julien.  Bruins Merlot Man Gregory Campbell has yet to take the ice in practice and is also not been cleared by Julien and the medical staff to play tomorrow.

Claude Julien knows that a lot of his quality players are still a little rusty, and several have played very little hockey over the last twelve months. He took today to make sure some of those veteran Bruins (like Adam McQuaid and Dennis Seidenberg) and new players to the organization got a chance to get themselves closer to one hundred percent.

“It’s an opportunity for them to showcase what they can do in those preseason games,” said Julien. “But I view everybody in that way. Look at [Dennis] Seidenberg. I think he looks a little rusty out there. That’s normal. It’s the same with Chris Kelly. They missed half the season, and it shows. Now they’ve got an opportunity in the next few weeks to find their game.” The Bruins will soon be shaking that rust all over the blue, blanc, et rouge as they start their pre-season games against the Montreal Canadiens on the twenty-third.
